The Max is a massive unit. The Radenso Pro-M is tiny in comparison. Fortunately the big sticky mount does a good job in holding the Max unit in place along with the magnetic slide connector. It’s an excellent mount and the detector slides in and out with ease. The power cord is coiled, ample in length and allows you to mute (single button click) or lock out (double click) a signal. Locking out is done via the GPS system which also permits its soon to be expiring patent to auto lock out false alarms.
The Radenso Pro M is attached by standard dual suction cups. Old school but it does the job particularly when considering the small size and weight of the unit. Unlike the Max the power cord base does not allow you to mute/lock out signals. A big red push button allows you to power down the unit conveniently. Lock outs are done manually by pushing a center button on the unit itself.
The Max does a relatively good job blocking out false K band alarms from blind spot monitoring systems in autos. Based on my experience the Radenso Pro M is a bit better and somewhat equal to the Uniden R3 which I also have owned. It will also handle building alarm systems and such emitting k band signals. After you have passed them a few times they are locked out automatically.
In terms of sensitivity, the Max is more than adequate, arguably among the top half of contemporary high end radar detectors with both K and Ka band. This according to the most recent tests carried out and published at www.rdforum.com. With laser detection, it doesn’t much matter as your detector will more than likely only be able to tell you that you’ve already been clocked by the bogeys. At the same time, the number of falses produced in abundance by this detector is unforgivable. More on this later. The Radenso is also very capable and you will not go wrong by either unit. If you do highway driving in open space and enjoy hammering the throttle the very best bit is the ultra sensitive Uniden R3 or R7. Opting for the unit may not be the best choice for congested urban areas as you will be hit by many false Ka alerts. That was my experience with the R3 and the R7 is at least as sensitive.
As alluded to earlier, the Max has backlit arrows to display signals detected through two ‘horns,’ one pointed forward and one rearward. Depending on the strength and location of radar signal, the backlit arrows are illuminated. The unit does a relatively good job in detecting location, but there is a slight lag. Not a major issue in my opinion. The Radenso will only detect radar in front of it. The display is adequate but is hard to read when there is a lot of daylight glare. The display is red while the Max allows you to choose colors.
Escort also offers an app that allows the user to set up and customize the unit with ease. This is a tremendous convenience as you don’t need to worry about memorizing button combinations or reading a manual to set up the detector. The app will also alert you in a visual map of alerts detected via other Escorts using the same app. Same concept as Waze. The app will also report alerts from other online units directly to the detector.
This Max would come with a strong endorsement except for one pervasive and annoying flaw…..it falses laser far too often. Own an iPhone? Half the time you open an iPhone with face recognition you’ll also set off the laser alert. The Radenso doesn’t do this and neither does the Uniden. Drive near a tollway? Be prepared for false alerts every five minutes. The Radenso won’t do this and in my experience the Uniden R3 will do it very seldom. And when it does it is in the same place every time. The Max will false everywhere and you cannot lock it out.
Escort is well aware of its laser problem. They offer an attenuation module that they will install on request. And they will also try to convince you the problem is with your car and advance electronics. The argument falls flat when you notice the laser problems predominantly next to tollways. With its problematic laser detection model, the Max is not recommended. The Radenso is an excellent all around detector and especially appealing with its small size and portability. If you want the ultimate in sensitivity go with one of the Unidens.
